This is an update for our members and also to let new people interested in taking Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido know what we have been doing for the last three years behind the scenes since establishing the BIA.

Mr Paul Chadburn and Mr Ernest Blackburn have been studying Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu further with a Japanese instructor by the name of Teruhisa Nanno Sensei, and making strong bonds and contacts through the BIA & EIA with his dojo in Japan. Both are using his Iai manual and DVD, also Teruhisa Nanno Sensei and the BIA are making plans to have the manual reprinted and to import this manual for our members both here and in Europe.

Below is a letter from Teruhisa Nanno Sensei explaining who he is and just what Mr Paul Chadburn and Mr Ernest Blackburn have been doing on behalf of the BIA and why.

Who is Teruhisa Nanno?

Teruhisa Nanno Sensei, Menkyo Kaiden, Hanshi 8th dan

Teruhisa Nanno is Menkyo Kaiden, Hanshi 8th dan of Iaido granted by the 22nd Soke Ikeda Takashi Seiko of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu who is also the president of Zen Nihon Iaido Renmei.

Guneikan situated at Kasugai–shi, Aichi Pref., Japan is the Author’s Iaido dojo where the legitimate Iaido secret traditionally handed down for 400 years long are being instructed on every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday.

The author has published this Iaido manual written in English as well as in Japanese for the purpose to make the Iaido students understand the spirits and the techniques of the Iaido and to diffuse the Iaido not only in Japan but also all over the world.

Fortunately Mr P Chadburn and Mr Ernie Blackburn who are the head coaches of the British Iaido Association and European Iaido Association are coming to Japan regularly every year and have the very hard severe Iaido lesson day and night for one week at Guneikan dojo. Now, they are going to teach legitimate Iaido to their disciples in England and Europe as the eminent instructors worthy of the representatives of the author.

Besides them, there are so many none Japanese having the passion for Iaido. Some of them are coming directly to Guneikan dojo and the rest have the contact with the author through the Iaido manual especially the attached DVD.

Someday in the near future, the author shall be in England and in Europe in order to supervise the Iaido situation under the support of the BIA and EIA.

Last of all the author is 77 years old, and would like to spend the rest of his life according to the instruction of the Iaido secret, that is, ‘never draw the sword, never be injured by the opponent, never injure the opponent then complete the calm and peaceful life with self–control’

Teruhisa Nanno

Now what we need to remember is there are no wrong styles, just different ones and surely it is for the student to decide which he or she prefers, and as with the empty hand martial arts there are many styles, Ju Jitsu, Karate, Aikido and Judo to name but a few, but none are wrong, all are different in some way, but all walk the Budo path.

So let’s see if we can apply this to our Iaido and in so doing welcome more styles into out midst as long as it has a correct lineage and give everyone a forum to gather and discuss under one roof with one goal. I know we are all partisan to our own particular style but surely exclusion of knowledge is ignorance. We in the BIA now have ambassadors for our Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido that has a correct lineage beyond anyone's doubt or condemnation, this lineage means that they are teaching Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, or at least one style of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, but it is the style taught by the 22nd Soke of the ZNIR Ikeda Takashi Seiko Sensei, directly to Teruhisa Nanno Sensei Menkyo Kaiden Hanshi 8th dan and then to Mr Paul Chadburn and Mr Ernest Blackburn and ultimately to you if you so wish.

So if this fits your criteria then please feel free to contact us at chairman@britishiaido.co.uk, but also feel free to look at the rest of the site.
